Dikra Nu Ghar's founding dates back to the early 2000s, born from a heartfelt mission: no elderly person should ever feel orphaned or unwelcome. A group of Rajkot philanthropists – including trustees like Shri Mukesh Doshi, Shri Praful Parikh, Shri Sunil Vora and others – established the Samarpan Charitable Trust to make this vision a reality.
They witnessed cases of parents left behind as children moved abroad or households unable to care for ageing family, and resolved to create a haven for these seniors. The guiding philosophy was simple yet profound: "an old age home should not be a place of last resort, but truly a second home where elders are cherished as parents." This ethos gave rise to the name "Dikra Nu Ghar," symbolizing that residents would be cared for as lovingly as if in a son's home.
From inception, the Trust emphasized service over commerce. No elder at Dikra Nu Ghar is charged for accommodation or care – the home runs entirely on donations and a spirit of service. The trustees famously turned down a wealthy Non-Resident Gujarati who offered a ₹5 lakh donation, a personal servant and even a car to secure VIP treatment for his parents at Dikra Nu Ghar – the home declined, upholding that priority must be for penniless, truly needy seniors over those who can afford private care.
"Our priority is to first offer rooms to the destitute who have nowhere to go. Those with means can hire help and manage," explained trustee Mukesh Doshi, encapsulating the institution's core value of selfless service. This strong moral foundation – placing humanity above money – has earned Dikra Nu Ghar immense respect.

The Dikra Nu Ghar old age home is the heart of Samarpan Charitable Trust's work, but it is by no means the Trust's only undertaking. The very spirit of "samarpan" (meaning "dedication" or "devotion") drives the Trust to engage in multiple social welfare programs that touch lives across age groups.
Leveraging the goodwill and volunteer base built through the old age home, Samarpan Charitable Trust has expanded into a network of humanitarian activities in Rajkot and surrounding areas, including:
